The club aims to provide a range of group rides for most abilities and ages, from steady social club rides of around 40 miles with the all important cafe stop, to brisker training rides and longer distance rides. The nature of these rides varies depending on the time of year and weather conditions. They provide a great opportunity to get to know other members and just get out and enjoy riding your bike.
Club rides vary depending on weather conditions, racing commitments and level of interest. Our Facebook Group has details of changes to routes and ad-hoc rides, so members are encouraged to check there for the latest information. Also see our Rides and Events Calendar page for the latest details.
You don’t have to be a member to come on the first one or two rides, but please see the FAQ section for more information before coming along.
For more information on riding in a group, see our Ride Etiquette page.
The two main club rides, which run every Saturday, are the Taunton Ride and Extended Saturday Ride. Details on these are provided below. Severe weather may lead to their cancellation, in which case details will be posted on Facebook.
Taunton – Bampton – Taunton, leaving Bicycle Chain Taunton 09:00.
A steady paced ride that will wait for any dropped riders at the top of climbs. Distance around 40 miles with a stop in Bampton halfway. Average speed approx 17-18 mph. When considering the pace, bear in mind that when riding in a group it’s possible to maintain a higher speed than when riding solo.

Extended Saturday Ride
A longer Saturday ride, often incorporating more challenging terrain, usually leaves Walford Cross at 8:00 or 8:30 before passing through Taunton or Bridgwater, covering around 65 to 80 miles over a variety of routes. Details of these rides can be found on the Club’s Facebook Group (open to non members) and where possible will added to the club calendar a day or two before.
