Peter Sandy Memorial Road Race – Sunday 18 July 2021

Somerset Road Club are proud to be presenting the third Peter Sandy Memorial Road Race on Sunday 18 July 2021.

Details on the event are on the British Cycling website.

This 70 mile event will be run on 10 laps of the SW136 Nicholashayne Course. This is a great course on the Devon / Somerset border, with the HQ in Uffculme. The course takes in a mix of technical lanes, fast downhills and the long White Ball climb out of Somerset on the A38. This National B event will be open to E/1/2/3 category riders.

*** HELPERS NEEDED ***

As always we require helpers to enable us to continue to run and establish this years road race. Without the help of club members we would be unable to run this event. Further details to follow.

Don’t worry if you’ve never taken part before, you will be given support for the role.

Peter Sandy passed away at the age of 87, on 13 June 2017. He was president of Somerset Road Club for many years, having revived the struggling club 40 years ago.

A popular figure, he was a successful racer in the South West and beyond. He had top six finishes in almost 100 races between 1977 and 1987.

Peter was an inspiration to so many riders throughout the years, both young and old. He will be sadly missed for his passion for cycling and the many racing stories that he told at our cafe stops.
